Our Mission at Cross Hill Community Church

At Cross Hill Community Church we strive is to find joy in loving God and one another, and to bring Gospel transformation to the individuals and communities of the Iron Range.

Joy in Loving God

Are you happy? Have you discovered what it takes to be able to face even life’s most difficult moments with a sense of peace and joy? God has created us with a desire to know him. We try to find happiness in many ways, but only loving God and experiencing the joy of his glory can truly satisfy us forever!

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9

Loving One Another

As we experience for ourselves the love of God, we grow in our ability to selflessly love others. As we receive undeserved kindness from God (grace!), we must learn to extend that same kindness to others who do not deserve it. This does not mean that we never have conflicts or difficulties in our relationships, but that we resolve to deal with them openly, honestly, and with an eye towards building one another up to become more like Jesus.

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:9-10

Gospel Transformation

Have you ever known someone who received news that was so good it altered the course his or her life? Gospel literally means “Good News.” The Good News that the Bible teaches is that although we are all under God’s wrath due to our rebellion and sin against Him, he loved us enough to send Jesus to be our substitute and to die in our place to pay the penalty for our sin. As a result, those who accept this gift by faith, abandoning their own efforts to somehow work themselves even with God, are given the right to be adopted as children of God. We no longer live under the cloud of God’s wrath, but in the bright light of his favor! This is such incredible news, that it should naturally result in a significant change in how we live. It changes our values, our priorities, our passions, and our affections. When we really understand the Good News, Jesus becomes the central object of our affections and our greatest treasure.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures… 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel… Philippians 1:27

Community Transformation

As we are individually transformed by the Good News of Jesus, we will begin to have an effect on the people and communities around us, for better or for worse! Therefore, it is vital that we live lives that are consistent with our faith in Jesus Christ. While our lifestyles may cause some people to dislike us, if we are living lives shaped by Jesus it will also be attractive to those that God is drawing to himself. And since we have received such a great and undeserved love from God, we grow into the ability to show love to others in our community even when they don’t deserve it.

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. 2 Corinthians 2:14-16
